2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS: Pricing, Full Specs, Release Date & Review

The 911 GT3 RS is the most extreme version of Porsche’s iconic sports car, a full-fledged race car that delivers otherworldly performance and uncompromising driving enjoyment. It may look like the fever dream of a Fast N’ Furious fanboy, all flared nostrils and gaping air ducts and an enormous wing, but every detail on this wildly aerodynamic beast is the result of countless hours in a wind tunnel and advanced engineering.

Powered by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine twisted to 518 horsepower, the GT3 RS is the fastest road-going 911, capable of accelerating from zero to 62 miles per hour in three seconds and going on to a harrowing top speed of 205 miles per hour. But it’s the RS’s wild racing-derived aerodynamic elements, cribbed from both GT and Formula 1 cars that deliver otherworldly performance and hot-lap capability.

As you’d expect from a race-bred car, the RS is loaded with active aero features that are controlled by buttons on the steering wheel and can be switched on or off at will. A rotary knob lets you choose between four drive modes; while another switch adjusts the power sheering’s assistance level.

And a set of toggles allow you to tweak the compression and rebound settings on the front and rear dampers, choose from eight different steering-wheel-mounted settings for the electronic limited-slip rear differential both when driving and at a standstill, and even manually adjust the Formula 1-style Drag Reduction System (DRS).

The rear wing can be opened or closed for maximum downforce or to reduce drag depending on conditions. It works in tandem with a two-piece front diffuser that moves to optimize downforce and airflow. It also replaces the side radiators with a single front air-cooled unit. This saves weight and frees up space for louvers that increase downforce at the front tires and decrease air resistance by pushing incoming air outward through the center of the body.

Other aero features include a lower front splitter that’s 40 percent larger than the previous one, reducing turbulence at high speeds and increasing downforce. And a hydraulically activated top element on the rear wing functions as an air brake to help shift weight rearward and counteract the natural tendency of a car to move forward under braking.

Inside, you get the traditional snug sports-car experience with a pair of supportive bucket seats and a central infotainment screen that’s complemented by physical controls on the steering wheel. Porsche bills itself as a builder of driver’s cars, and so the GT3 RS forgoes many of the tech found in most modern cars, including backup sensors and traffic-sign recognition. A laughably small rear seat is available, but you’ll want to save room for cargo rather than people.
