Mitsubishi has a reputation for producing cars and SUVs with style, performance, and capability but the brand also produces a decent range of commercial vehicles.
The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 is one of them and it looks like it’s due for a facelift soon. The current generation was introduced in Australia in 2015 and it’s starting to show its age. It’s been through a couple of facelifts in that time but a new model is long overdue.
It seems Mitsubishi is well on its way to getting the next-generation Triton into showrooms because a production-ready prototype has been spotted testing in Europe. The test mule is heavily camouflaged but it’s enough to reveal the shape of the new model. The front end has a two-bar grille with a mesh insert and the headlights have a split design that takes inspiration from the Outlander.
The clamshell-style bonnet is also a little more prominent. The rectangular wheel arches carry over from the pre-facelift ute but have a boxier design and a more prominent shoulder line. The rear end is more conventional with redesigned taillights and a new bumper with an integrated brake lamp.

There’s no word on powertrains yet but it is likely to share its ladder-frame chassis with the upcoming Nissan Navara. This is because the Renault-Nissan Alliance has plans to harmonize their respective midsize trucks and the current Triton’s platform dates back to 2005. It will probably have a longer wheelbase and wider track than the current car as well, meaning greater interior room.
The cabin will have a modern look with an automatic climate control system and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Standard safety features will include autonomous emergency braking, radar cruise control, blind zone warning, lane-keeping assist, front, and rear parking sensors, and a high-definition rear camera. The UTE will continue to offer Mitsubishi’s Super Select four-wheel drive, which can be locked into heavy-duty 4WD mode for off-road use.
A seven-seat version is also expected, though there has been no word on whether it will be available with the same engine line-up as the double-cab. It will probably get the same 2.3-litre diesel but there’s no word on outputs at this stage. A pure electric ute will probably be added to the range as well. Mitsubishi has already confirmed it’s working on an EV that will arrive sometime before 2029.
